Conversion Disorder

A Look Into a Different Mental Health Diagnosis

Oh Hello!

Today, we are talking about something very special to me — a condition known as Conversion Disorder (Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder). Essentially, this is a condition characterized by symptoms affecting sensory and motor functions. Allow me to break this down in layman’s terms: it’s a psychological disorder that can have emotional and physiological effects.

For me, this is a very personal conversation. You see, two years ago, I was having a normal day. I went to work in the retail sector. I was helping a mother and her two grown daughters look for special pieces of jewelry, when all of a sudden the bottom right side of my mouth started to droop and pulse.

Since then, I have been to many doctors who agree to disagree about my condition. The most universal answer is that I am so stressed that my body doesn’t know how to handle what comes to it. I live with extremely tense muscles, headaches, and what we have loving called “ticks”.

This blog is my own personal love letter to myself.

This blog is my own personal love letter to myself. It’s a place I can find solace and even just begin to heal from all of the things that ultimately lead to this diagnosis — a place to remember the things that I love and that bring me the most joy. My hope is that from this blog you also are able to find love, hope, and a little inspiration to keep pushing through life.

XOXO,
Michelle
